Owner Verdictfrom 18 owner reports

The Dreame L40 Ultra Gen 2 delivers heavy-duty suction and automated dock convenience, but compromises on navigation and obstacle avoidance compared to its predecessor.

Skip it unless you are willing to manage cluttered floors and cable-free zones for the sake of powerful raw suction.

Owners consistently praise the Dreame L40 Ultra Gen 2 for its outstanding suction power and effective mopping performance, noting that it successfully tackles daily dust, hair, crumbs, and pet fur while significantly reducing manual floor upkeep. The automated base station and anti-tangle brush design receive high marks for minimizing hands-on maintenance, making routine cleaning far more efficient.

However, a clear pattern of frustration emerges around navigation and obstacle avoidance. Owners report that the Gen 2 struggles with cables and specific furniture like sled-style chairs, representing a step backward due to the removal of the advanced RGB AI sensor system. Additional pain points include hidden costs for cleaning solution dispensers, complex app controls, and build quality or reliability concerns surfaced by long-term users.
