Mullvad delivers unmatched privacy and rock-solid WireGuard speeds, but recent changes and platform drops frustrate power users.
Get this if privacy and WireGuard speed are your absolute priorities, but skip it if you need reliable port forwarding or seamless streaming access.
Owners consistently praise Mullvad for its uncompromising privacy stance, highlighting anonymous account creation via unique numbers, cash and crypto payment options, and regular independent security audits. WireGuard performance on nearby servers receives high marks, with many reporting speeds reaching their ISP maximums alongside a clean, no-frills interface that prioritizes straightforward functionality.
However, the service struggles significantly in specific areas. The removal of port forwarding has damaged torrenting consistency, and owners frequently encounter connection drops on macOS and certain Windows 11 setups. Furthermore, Mullvad is not built for streaming, often getting blocked by major platforms, while its flat-rate pricing model lacks the multi-year discounts found among competitors.

- −Discontinuation of port forwarding hurts torrenting consistency
- −Persistent random disconnects and connection drops on macOS and some Windows 11 setups
- −Unreliable or completely blocked access to major streaming services
- −Flat-rate pricing model lacks multi-year discounts offered by competitors
